That's the whole point! |

i am offended not by any specific show, but more generally by all of the singing and dancing going on. It feels like every time something interesting is about to happen, the whole cast breaks into a song and dance.
Why can’t the actors just speak calmly and clearly to express their feelings, preferably from a seated or otherwise fixed position? It would also take a lot less time, the show could be cut down to 20 min, no need for an intermission. Also the costumes are distracting, couldn’t they just ask the actors to wear their street clothes? |
Did you not know anything about it before you went? That's...odd. |
If you avoid spoilers you don't get detai. Dogma (movie, not a musical) is broadly superficially similar as religious satire, yet has a different, gentler spin on taste and style. |
| BoM was very racist. I’m white, but squirmed quite a bit for the AA family seated in front of me. Funny as hell, though. |
The only people who think this aren't very familiar with musicals. Also, the answer is Carousel. Why do we keep reviving this awful show? |
Dogma is a dark horse for one of the 10 funniest movies ever made. And because Harvey Weinstein holds the rights, it's not available anywhere, unless you get your hands on an old DVD (and are one of the dinosaurs who still has a DVD player). Yet another thing he has to answer for. |
| All the people offended by Book or Mormon - you knew that going in (right?). It's intentionally offensive. |
I expected satire - and some boundary pushing. I did not expect it to indulge in racial stereotyping so much. |
Agreed. Not to mention almost everything I had read about it when I saw it (early in its run) was talking about how it was/could be offensive to Mormons, nothing about the overt racism. |
Most reviews don't spoil and would still have let you know that it's intentionally offensive. Like, that's the entire point. |
OMG Good Riddance. You suck and don't deserve ART. I bet the backstage and after-party has a bunch of shot games based on you. |
Good grief. You don't get to tell musicals how they should perform. Stay away if you don't get it |
That's ridiculous. I can understand how you can not appreciate the art form, but depicting art through song and dance is a valid artistic expression. I get it, it's not for you. I don't like abstract visual art, but I wouldn't say I am offended because I don't understand the medium. There are many people who enjoy seeing emotion and story conveyed through either music or dance. That's the point of musicals to convey a story in a mixture of performance art forms. It's a mixture of acting, singing and dance. And the mixture is what makes it work for many folks. |
