We have a place just north of Miami and genuinely not sure I should be taking the kids there at this point.

Plan your next vacation in Chicago, they have much stricter gun laws.

And Chicago is also much safer than Florida statistically speaking, dumbass.

Or we can look at states like Massachusetts and Hawaii where the fewest amount of people own guns and there are fewer gun deaths. I don’t understand how people can’t see the correlation between lax gun laws, owning guns and gun violence.

About 12.5% of people living in Massachusetts own a gun. Over 50% of people living in Mississippi own a gun. Gun death rates for Massachusetts is just under 4% per 100,000. In Mississippi it’s 34% per 100,000.

There are other factors too but until gun culture is changed in red states there will be more violence and mass shooting.

You are choosing to ignore some very key factors, along with the fact that Mississippi is largely rural.

I said there were other factors but the number one factor is gun control laws. Mississippi being rural should mean less violence. Everyone has their own space.

I was on the metro. At Arlington National Cemetery, a young man got on with a holster and gun. He wasn't in uniform. I didn't particularly want to see the gun. It concerned me that someone on the metro could easily overpower him and take the gun.

31 shot and 3 killed so far this weekend in Chicago.
And, there are still two days until the 4th of July.
Chicago is not safe.

Good post. I don't think many people here understand the sheer volume of "accidental discharges" that happen among people who are barely competent with a firearm. AFAIK the FBI doesn't keep stats on them.

Totally safer. Please plan your vacations there for the rest of your life, smartpants.

Bet that neighborhood in Baltimore wishes that someone would have been able to stop the shooters at the block party on July 2nd. But in MD only criminals have guns.

Apparently Baltimore has already discovered over 1,000 illegal guns “from other states”.

Do we think all those criminals with illegal guns suffered any consequences? I doubt it. Baltimore will do nothing about its skyrocketing crime. But hey, more thoughts and prayers.

*The 1,000 discovered guns are just since January.

Yeah, but Florida has its own kind of crazy+stupid. There's a reason "Florida man" is a thing.

There is, but it has nothing to do with what you’re implying. It has to do with the state’s laws surrounding the media releasing the names of suspects. Protecting the innocent from publicity means you get a lot of newspaper reports that say “Florida Man” rather than “Wayne, DeShaun, Joey, and Carlos.”

Interesting!
