I miss the old FCPS

OP is probably using the terms “promotion” and “graduation” interchangeably. Either way, OP thinks it’s stupid.

Stop trolling. If it’s this bad now, this forum
is going to be unbearable closer to SB elections.

7 years vs two years. [/quote

7 is a long time even for employment.

Especially if you are 12.

I had an elementary school promotion growing up. I remember going out to lunch after. I’m glad that I have that memory.

We should have the ceremonies at DAR, that would be spectacular, historical and memorable.

Snort! Well played.

The President should be the Guest Speaker.

Elementary schools shouldn’t have a “graduation” you don’t graduated from elementary school. You get “promoted” but you don’t graduated. Today my son “graduated” from 6th grade. I talked to the principal today and told her why they are calling graduation and not pronation she said FCPS policy. I’m heart broken. FCPS is going down hill fast.

I agree.

One of our local elementary schools rented out the high school auditorium last night for 6th grade "graduation"

Complete overkill and unnecessary.

Just have a promotion ceremony in the caferteria the last day of school like normal elementary schools.

Having a fancy shinding in a fancy auditorium for 6th grade just seems like too much.

+1, taught 6th grade for over 10 years with FCPS, always been “promotion.”

One of the schools in our pyramid had a 6th grade graduation this week at the high school auditorium.

Jaysus Christmas. It is not a policy. Our school calls it “promotion” and has for at least 13 years despite a PTA mom cabal who all want it to be called “graduation”.

Maybe look something up before you freak out and post?

You really think this is that big of a deal?

Well, obviously, your school was confused.

This has to be a troll post.

Our school also calls it a promotion ceremony. But even if they called it a graduation ceremony, I wouldn't care. There are more important things to be bothered by. This wouldn't make my list. What a charmed life you must lead!

FCPS alum. In 6th grade in 1981. It was a promotion ceremony back then. Wore a pink sundress. No cap and gowns.

I could see an elem school using a high school gym for the ceremony.

Some of those old cafeterias are small and when each child might have like 6 family members (grandparents, siblings, etc) in attendance, it gets tight. Might even be a fire code issue. Again if using a HS gym is the biggest foul, move on. It’s no big deal in the grand scheme. Heck elem schools use the HS gym for basketball games against other elem schools in the pyramid. Why not for a more well attended event?

People flip out about the weirdest little things and then overlook the bigger long term issues

Our ES switched to using the HS gym during COVID for 6th grade promotion. So much better then squeezing everyone into our much smaller ES gym.

At least in 6th grade the kids are moving on to a new level after (in most cases) being at the school for a long time. At least one elementary school in FCPS did a graduation ceremony for freaking kindergarten. When I’m sure most of those kids had a graduation ceremony just the year before when they were leaving their preschool. It’s really gotten ridiculous.
