I miss the old FCPS

It’s OK folks Gatehouse has cable and watches the Beverly Hillbillies, they know just like Jethro that you need an 8th grade education to succeed in life.

It was a “promotion” at the school you referenced. You are trolling or you misunderstood.

The issue is why you have a big pronation in elementary but middle school is just "see ya."

I had an elementary school promotion growing up. I remember going out to lunch after. I’m glad that I have that memory.

Agree.

Part of it is that it's a bigger deal hoping from 6th to 7th grade (ES to MS) verse MS t o HS.

Plus you're not a little kid anymore when going from MS to HS so no need for a class party or pomp.

And if you're at Ribinson or LBSS you're at the same school anyway switching 8th to freshman so it's very anticlimactic.

I just got an email from the principal it was called “promotion” the 6th graders were calling it graduation and they didn’t collect them…

Does anyone have an ES doing what OP claims? Ours is a promotion and always has been a promotion

We should have the ceremonies at DAR, that would be spectacular, historical and memorable.

Elementary schools shouldn’t have a “graduation” you don’t graduated from elementary school. You get “promoted” but you don’t graduated. Today my son “graduated” from 6th grade. I talked to the principal today and told her why they are calling graduation and not pronation she said FCPS policy. I’m heart broken. FCPS is going down hill fast.

It is a promotion. How far back do you want to go? They have been having promotion ceremonies for at least 20 years. Most of the students have been at the school more than half their lives. It gives them closure and a nice send off.

A post like this needs to be deleted. Unnecessary arguments!

This is much ado about nothing. Graduation vs. Promotion . . . . who cares? Maybe it is a significant distinction to you but to most it is not. Take a deep breath. It will be alright.
