Canada. The largest wildfires are in Canada. The same weather pattern that is bringing us the cooler weather is also bringing the smoke. |
Where are you? Airnow.gov has Bethesda at 171 at the 10am update. |
According to the US Gov, Code Purple is a health warning of emergency conditions. Everyone will be affected by going outside. |
Different poster, but it’s 207 in Arlington as of 11:15 |

Lies. There has not been a Code Red in the DC area since 2011, except on July 4th because of fireworks. |
Not from known fire pollution though. |
No wonder my eyes are burning and throat hurts. It’s hazy in Rockville. Index is 181. Swim practice has not been cancelled. I’m telling my teen to stay home. |
I woke up with crusty eyes. I thought I was getting an eye infection but probably the air quality as I left a window open.
When we went outside this morning (arlington) I faintly smelled smoke but maybe a neighborhood fire as I can’t imagine smelling the fires this far away. |
But you are. This is the brave new world of global warming come to our door, PP. The wildfires are 500+ miles away and you can smell them. |
Turned on my rabbit air, was code red on indicator. Awful timing because we are having flood restoration indoors. Guess I will leave Rabbit Airs on turbo all day |
I am in NoVa (Bristow) and I smelled the smoke. I thought I was crazy, but it is the wildfires. PPs are right - this is cancer causing smoke we are breathing in. wear a mask if you must go outside. |
My family in western NY have said it's pretty bad they are all indoors. |
22203 and air quality has vacillated between 196 and 204 all morning. 200 is the cutoff for Code Purple. Sports leagues and swimming pools are closing for the day, Parks and Rec and school systems are cancelling outdoor things. |
My eyes still hurt from walking my kids to school. That was a terrible idea. |
