Hot humid air is not the same as air with particulates from fire?! |
Where are the wildfires?
It’s funny because walking the dog this morning I noticed it was kind of hazy and started wondering if the air pollution in my neighborhood is worse than I had thought. I have mild asthma. |
No. It's usually a Code Orange on certain afternoons of July and August, due to ozone. Code Red is unusual for the DC area, and this one is due to particulate matter. It will affect people differently. |
You don't read, listen to or watch any news? Wildfires are in Quebec this week. There are multiple uncontrolled fires. There are also a few in the northestern US, and last week there were the Nova Scotia fires, but the current main source of particles today is from Quebec. |
Some of you will be the absolute last people in the movie who notixe the zombie apocalypse has begun. |
I kind of like how it smells outside because it reminds me of a campfire, but yeah it's pretty bad (in Potomac). The air feels thick. I'll walk the dog later but definitely not running in this. MCPS canceled outdoor recess today ![]() |
You heard it hear, folks. PP trained for marathons in China and as of this moment is alive to tell the tale, therefore, you should ignore all air quality warnings. |
Yes, how did you not hear about the wildfires and bad air? |
Are you making kids skip recess?? |
9am and 10am updates had us at 199 AQI.
We are 2 points away from shifting up feom code red Unhealthy to code purple Very Unhealthy. |
If you wear makeup, do you ever accidentally breathe in or sniffle when you’re applying loose powder and you feel yourself slightly breathe it in a little bit and it feels sort of “gritty” in your nose/throat? That’s what it feels like outside today. |
I’m not a teacher so I’m not actually dictating anything my kids do at school, but I did send them in masks (we have an almost mile walk to school), and encouraged them to wear them outside. They did wear them on the walk to school. About an hour ago I got an email from the head of their school saying they are moving any “strenuous physical activity” and gym indoors. |
Many school systems have a policy to cancel outdoor activities when it's a code red alert-- including DCPS, APS, and MCPS. |
Avoid going outdoors today. Seriously. It’s like breathing in a pack of cigarettes all at once w/o the nicotine. Close windows. Turn on indoor Hepa filters. School districts in New Jersey are closed for the day. Other districts are cancelling all outdoor activities. |
And we are now 3 points into code purple, Very Unhealthy, with an AQI of 204. Airnow.gov |
