Yeah sure .. there are students who live way farther than us outside the dcc who don’t have to walk as far as my daughter.. Really appreciate your positive attitude and open mindedness to other people’s struggles !!!

Your daughter walks further because YOU choose not to send her to her home school.

The school that is the worst in the dcc AND is relocating all the way to Rockville next year .. I'm sorry that I want what's best for my child , and what's best is not sending her to a school that has fights and bad influences there every day !!

So… this is not about the transportation issue

Are you saying I'm not allowed to have 2 different reasons for wanting her to transfer ? Obviously Mcps would only consider the transportation issue because they're afraid to actually discipline student's at that school and put in an effort to make it better .

Neither are good reasons for a transfer to blair. If transportation is an issue, you go to your home school. And, Blair is just as rough a school with just as much fighting. What are you going to do, transfer her yearly? Maybe try moving or a private.

I thought Kennedy was the "worst" school in the DCC. OP, you could move.

There have been very few fights this year. There are fights at Blair, Wheaton and Kennedy as well. I don’t think Northwood is that different from Blair (non-magnet). I know a couple of kids who go to Northwood and they are great kids who seem happy with the teachers at Northwood. Perhaps you could email the principal and ask if your daughter could do a shadow day there although the last couple of weeks of school might not be the best time

Kennedy is a mess this year.
Weird that OP would rank it over Northwood.

My kid is at WJ in Bethesda and there are fights there too. My kid showed me a video of one fight and it was just horrible. Fights and drugs are at every high school unfortunately

A 17 minute walk is too far? Your daughter sounds spoiled. My kids walk 30 mins to school and have never complained.

My goodness, the entitlement mentality of the OP is beyond belief.
It's no wonder MCPS is going down; it's because of transplants like the OP moving in MoCo.

There have been barely any fights at Northwood this year. My kid can’t even remember one all year.

The administration at Northwood is fantastic.

Your misinformation is either ignorance or intentional prejudice.

Woodward is in North Bethesda, ~ 7 miles from Northwood HS and a 15-20 min drive. It's not in Rockville Town Center. They will be adjusting bus routes to accommodate the move. For all you know, the commute might even end up shorter than what you are complaining about now.

What folks are saying is you can have 2 different reasons or 20 different reasons, but it doesn’t make any of those reasons valid for MCPS to move your child to any school of your choosing. You have choices: Stay at Wheaton (one of the options you chose initially), move to your homeschool Northwood, or take your chance with MCPS Central Office who likely will just tell you the above.

I work in the DCC. OP, you will not get Blair. Your appeal will be rejected.

Do your kids have to walk along a busy road where there are accidents almost every day ?

Yes I have . The blair bus stop is 7 minutes away by walk from our current address .

I don’t understand. DS went to Wheaton magnet and he took the bus to Blair and transferred to the Wheaton bus from Blair. Is that not available anymore?

I have kids at Blair and Wheaton. There are fights at Blair all the time. But Wheaton is much calmer and DS hasn’t seen any fights. Maybe they are there, but not like Blair. Wheaton is a great school. Be careful what you wish for.

I'm a Kennedy parent. I think based on test scores, we're the worst in the DCC. But honestly, it's not that far off from Kennedy, so I get it.

In terms of the fights and bad influences, that is true across all of the DCC high schools and all across MCPS.

I can post news reports of scary incidents at every single DCC high school. So there's no "safe school" in that regard.
