It does not |
No, a master’s degree is not required to teach in VA. I’ve never heard of that being a requirement in any state. It would create such a barrier to the profession given the educational cost in comparison to teacher pay. |
In Maryland you have to get a Masters within a certain time period (10 years?) |
I believe it is in MA |
No one will even admit it around here |
There are national polls of teachers and the biggest reason for them leaving are the students' mental health issues from the school shut downs and the resulting violence. |
Link? I’ve heard of no such thing and don’t see that anywhere online. |
let's add the bad parenting to your list |
I visited a school today where the 5th graders made posters describing their dream future career. I made a point to walk around and look at each one - multiple vets, attorneys, scientists, entertainers (!). Not one teacher. None. None of these children aspire to be a teacher. Think about it. You have to be a glutton for punishment in this day and age to go into education and that makes me really sad. In days gone by, at least there were decent benefits to encourage teachers to join the ranks. That doesn't really even exist anymore. |
This times a gazillion! Stop blaming everything on COVID! My kid suffered too but managed to not turn into an a@@hat |

Sorry hit reply too soon. The standard certificate 1 is good for 5 years, the next level is also good for 5 years and you have to state your plan for a masters. That adds up to 10 years of teaching and then you need your masters. I don’t know if they can reissue the second level or not, everyone I know who wanted to continue teaching went to grad school their first few years so they were eligible to continue. This was 15+ years ago. |
