Really?! Our admin look so stressed out all the time |
Is that why you are here? ![]() |
If DCUM is any indicator, they’re in denial. “Whatever, it’s no worse than any other year.” They’re delusional. |
No, I’m not a teacher. |
Your personal anecdotes are irrelevant, aCtUaLlY. ![]() |
I'm not sure what you think anyone can do, to create people who aren't there. |
Our population is skyrocketing. Start there. |
I don't know about VA, but I'm in a state further south. I've switched to a home/hospital setting and I work with chronically ill students either at their homes/hospital/the library/or virtually. It's full time and with my local district.
I don't think I have it in me to go back to the classroom, I love the autonomy and the ability to be a bit more creative. I've also been encouraged to apply to a virtual school in a northern state. Union protection, which we don't have down here. It would pay me 15-18k more than I am making now. I'll be speaking to someone as early as next week. *I read a stat last week-in 2012, Pennsylvania had close to 16k newly licensed teachers. In 2021 there were only 4500. There isn't anyone to fill these openings, and specialized positions like the one I'm in only want teachers with 6-8 years of experience. |
+ this x 100 |
They’re not. Those 6 classes will be dispersed and absorbed by the teachers who are left which means all your kids’ class sizes go up. Class size is the main predictor of student success so this is a snake that eats itself as you can see. |
This is correct. It’s hellish. -a current teacher |
Leaving not much incentive for those left behind to stay. |
HA! It is funny, my sister taught in APS and moved to MA. She is appalled by the teaching there and says the teachers are actively awful and ride on the high SES of their students to get test scores. |
APS is constantly advertising their “leadership academy” to teachers because so many are “chomping at the bit.” They even “extended the deadline to apply!” Chomping! |
PP is right though. If you can get one of those unionized jobs you stay, if you can’t VA is a frequent landing spot. It’s job protection, not that schools are better |
