Rose Hanbury and Prince William

Yes I do. The whole situation was covered up so sketchily by the press, something was clearly going on...

People who think Kate and William are happily and faithfully married are definitely extremely naive.
I don't know about the affair, but they haven't looked truly happy together since Louis. I wonder what happened.

He has the heir and the male spare. Now he can concentrate on his side piece

First, we don't know if he is having affairs. Second, Diana was an arranged bride pre internet era who herself wanted out, Kate is a love match and wouldn't agree to divorce and would threaten media outrage so its not as simple.

Kate is probably more popular now than any other royal. Her kids are the face of the royal family and she is the most efficient employee firm ever had.

That doesn't mean he can't play house with Rose

Will has treated Kate terribly since they first started. She knew what she was trading off, and she has played the role of “good wife” likely to give herself leverage (which is smart). I assume Wills would cheat - and I assume Kate would simply avert her attention. The fact that the Palace got involved when the speculation arose a few years ago and then press suddenly completely dropped it suggests the Firm made a deal to drop the issue. I suspect they agreed to throw Harry/Megs under the bus to save the heir. Stinks for family, but like a PP said, Kate is wildly popular and they don’t want another Diana situation, particularly since Charles is not as well loved as his mother

PP - meant to say, I have never seen any indication that Kate would ever go scorched earth against the firm or even threaten going to the media. She’s seemed like a wet blanket since she joined the princess track, IMO

I dunno, the stuff that happened with Rose was pretty firm - press stories quashed, the friend de-friended, and William was in some hot water with the wife for a while. Something happened there - and Kate made her displeasure felt.

She can go to Charles and get anything she wants in exchange for putting on a happy face. Everyone knows that her going public and divorcing (especially a messy public divorce with a fight over assets and maintenance) is the end of the monarchy.

Does this also make Hilary Clinton a wet blanket? She was cheated on and she stayed.

I won't pretend to know if William cheated or didn't....but the barrage of judgment on Kate for staying in her marriage baffles me.

Yup! People want to believe that William and Kate have the fairy tale life but Kate absolutely worked hard to snag her Prince and will do what she needs to become Queen. I totally respect her for that! But it’s a job more than a romance.

+1, this was a quid pro quo arrangement from the start -- Kate set her sights on William and saw an opportunity because so many of the women in his set were disinterested in the job. She pursued him and molded herself into what she believed William, and the BRF, wanted in a future queen. And she was savvy and good at it (and also well funded by her family) and succeeded.

But it wasn't a love match. Kate didn't just accidentally fall in love with William at college. She was there to snag him. Also, he's pompous and dull and was only moderately handsome in his youth (and now not at all)-- were he not the heir to the throne, he would not have been of interest to her. She was social climbing and her family wanted to marry into the aristocracy. She aimed high and won, knowing the cost.

Kate is very controlled and usually excellent at not letting it show, but I was surprised by how angry and unhappy she looked at the coronation -- such a high profile event, they arrived late, looked unhappy in the carriage, and she seemed irate pretty much the entire time. She has looked happier at other more recent events but, notably, not while standing next to William.

I honestly think she cares more about how the rumors make her look than about the infidelity itself. Her image is here greatest asset and, along with the kids, her biggest leverage within the family.

Anyone else think that the rumors about Kate's family's financial woes may be leaked/stirred up by the family to remind Kate and her family that without the BRF, they are nobodies? Because that has crossed my mind when I see these headlines about them approaching bankruptcy and leaning on Kate and William to help.

This is also tied up with them getting Royal Lodge (thus kicking out Andrew) -- the Middletons are supposed to come live with them there, ostensibly to help take care of the kids while Kate and William take on more extensive duties as the crown prince and princess now that Charles has ascended. But it also puts the Middletons living on Firm property and supported by the BRF.

Probably. Like father, like son.

I absolutely believe the rumor and that Kate used her power to send a message about keeping affairs under better wraps going forward.

If that's true, she can go to William and Charles and remind them just how rich she and her family will be in the event of a divorce
