I've tried 3 different salons in Northern Virginia over the last 2 years - the more expensive colorists were always better than the less expensive ones. I've come to expect and budget if I want A+ work.

OP. Learn to do it yourself. Seriously. It is easier than you think. There is so much information out there about how to cut, color, and highlight. Beauty schools are no longer the gatekeepers of this information. Take advantage of the internet.

This is when having an art major kid pays off. They are usually great with cuts and color.
