| If not based on price then what is it based on? |
| I would not tip more than $50 for a haircut either. This is just highway robbery at this point. |
|
I paid $120 for full at Haircuttery plus $40 tip few months ago.
It was $300 at the fancier places 10 years ago already. I don't need fancy and I'm going back to haircuttery. |
| Op— what city is this hair salon? My stylist is trying to jack up prices to help pay for her assistant but they aren’t in close to D.C. So, rent isn’t as high. Just wondering where yours is located. And baleyage is very different than a partial highlight. |
| Yes, too high. |
| Was it regular partial highlights or balayage? It’s a little high (in dmv area) for partial highlights/haircut but actually low for balayage. |
| Too high. |
| I did $350 without tip for full highlights and cut on long hair. But it looks good and i only go every 5 months. |
Your stylist will be mysteriously booked every time you try to make an appointment, if you stiff her on the tip. |
| I get a cut and half a head of highlights in NYC for $300 including tip, which is a steal up here. |
| I have been a first time client at various salons over the years and am very careful of how I display wealth. Stylists like to chitchat and get you to tell them where your kids go to school (to see if private or public), where you are going on your next vacation, what kind of work my husband and I do (or if I’m a pampered SAHM), and observe how you dress, what you drive. My current (and hopefully forever) stylist charges a very fair price and does not pry like others have (who charge $300 plus). |
| Depends. How long is your hair? |
| For partial? No, that's too expensive for partial. |
+1 Especially if they own the shop. |
+1 That is very true of most service providers. |
