Walls is not a charter school.
Their nickname makes perfect sense to most reasonable people.

It’s a public magnet school, one of the only ones of its kind in dc.

Also, DCPS does not help the school at all with figuring out playing space.
DC parks and recs gives the school zero priority in reserving field space. Instead they prefer to lease field space to private schools who can pay more money. The Walls PTA has to give money to lease field space as DCPS does not include any money in the Walls budget to deal with this issue.

1. So this is GW's fault?
2. GW doesn't have athletic fields on its own campus; do you want them to build some for Walls?

GW was given land for their own use in exchange for having the school on their campus - the school is one small building. Part of the agreement was that the school could use GW facilities since the school is literally one small building.

The way you're lecturing when you don't even know that SWW is part of DCPS. Put the drinks down. It's too early to be this drunk.

Nice article. I love that a couple of Bard kids are playing on the SWW team. DCPS and GW come off looking bad but no surprises there.

Yeah GW plays baseball at Barcroft Park in Arlington:

It is so sad to me that DCPS gives Walls $12,000 to deal with all of its athletics challenges and lack of fields, etc. and yet wanted $270 million on unauthorized contracts that look shady and corrupt. I don’t even have a kid at Walls but I feel I am done with DCPS.
We should probably just throw in the towel and move to MD. I had high hopes for DCPS but it is never going to change. Even if Ferebee somehow moves on, the mayor will replace him with another hack

Sorry, for the typo in my last post. I meant that DCPS wasted $270, million not wanted

They didn’t waste $270 mil. They just didn’t go through all the procurement steps. Not good at all, but that money wasn’t actually wasted.

Anyway I agree with the sentiment that Walls was never intended to be a traditional high school, so I have a hard time feeling upset by lack of sports facilities.

I would hardly call that a lecture. There is a fine line between "Walls" and charters. Both are just ways for elitists to separate themselves from the general population. I mean, how else can you look at a DCPS school that is only 25% Black? So the fact remains, nobody is forcing your kid to attend "Walls." If they want to play baseball without the hassle, go to a regular public school. You also seem a bit obsessed with drinks. I mean, that was quite a leap.

Only? The schools I attended growing up were about 2% Black.

Many DCPS high schools have single digit PARCC passage rates. A majority or significant plurality of the Black families in boundary for those schools use charters, McKinley, DESA, Banneker, Walls, and privates.

Part of not being an “elitist” is letting other people — in this case Black families in DC — speak for themselves.

Have you ever visited DC? Your overwhelming ignorance makes me doubt it.

What’s your point? I’m Black and 25% Black is Black enough for me. The US is ~13% Black, and DC is ~45%. Walls’ Black population is fine. Find something else to complain about.
Btw, true elitists choose expensive private schools that gate-keep religiously. Unlike Walls, the unwashed masses, of any race, are not welcome at those schools.

So you think DCPS teams should play in Arlington?
