They have a right to be. Scores are heading in the wrong direction and we didn't overpay for old houses, get stuck in traffic, and get overtaxed to have our school board and administrators woke splain to us why grades don't matter. |
| How is this an issue? No AP's Freshman year is not an issue. It's a pain to juggle around schedules and I can understand why a school wouldn't want this plus it's unhealthy for the majority of kids like 99.9% of them. If your kid is that amazing why aren't they at TJ? |
DP. Many of the county's strongest students, especially freshmen and sophomores, attend high schools other than TJ. If you didn't know that, you probably shouldn't be posting on this thread. |
AP scores? That’s because we keep pushing AP classes down underclassmen’s throats. Most kids should be taking way fewer AP classes & tests and focusing on getting 5s on the ones they do take. Quantity over quality. |
You chose that. |
It's not a secret that course quality (i.e. degradation) has been ongoing for some time in the name of equity. Classes today are easier than in years past and, considering that undergrad is now a joke, some freshmen can handle AP courses. Can a freshman at Langely handle a course offered at Southern New Hampshire University? The answer is yes. The bar is that low. |
Oh, be quiet. We're a Langley family and are very glad there are no AP classes offered to freshmen. There may be some high schools in which there are AP classes for 9th graders, but the vast majority of them do NOT offer them. For good reason. |
Oh, please. If Langley let freshmen take an AP class or two like some other schools you’d be saying it was a testament to the academic rigor at the school. Maybe they’ll work out their scheduling issues eventually. |
| I’d rather my child takes 1+2+3 APs in the first 3 years of HS than the currently expected 0+1+5. This is both from the point of view of being able to focus on the more advanced material and from the point of view of managing stress. |
| They can also do 0+3+3 in your scenario. There is also a fourth year of school plus summers if people want to do more. None of this is necessary for life. |
DP. I agree with the PP - there’s no need for AP class in 9th grade. Good for Langley and any other school that limits them. |
Exactly. |
Hilarious. If enough Langley parents complained that their kids didn't have the same AP opportunities as kids at other schools, they'd fold like a deck of cards. It's not like Langley's current policy is based on years of research into the development of young minds. They apparently just don't have the staff and/or don't want to deal with the scheduling challenges. |
Now tell us about all the OTHER FCPS high schools that don't offer AP classes for freshmen. Yes, there are a handful that do, but they are in the minority. Let's hear your invective for the others. Or is this just another one of your anti-Langley rants? Rhetorical question, btw. |
If this bothers you, get together with some other parents and petition to the administration to change their policy. There are 11 high schools in FCPS, including most of the AP high schools, that allow freshmen to take AP Computer Science Principles. |
