Duke or penn

Have you spent any time in the neighborhood Penn is in?
Like after dark?

Penn's campus is very safe. They make it a priority to have public safety people basically on every corner at night and kids are often out very late, no worries about crime among the student body as far as I know.

Duke is regional. Big only in South Carolina and vicinity.

Brown, UPenn, international.

100%, as soon as you step outside of the Carolinas the Duke degree is actually viewed as a negative. People wonder why these students couldn't get into an actual good school like an ivy league instead of a faux intellectual sports school? And if they're going to go to a sports school, why would they be dumb enough to not just go to a better school like UVA or UNC? in my experience a duke degree is one of the least respected, even in the south. stay away if you can

You are an ignoramus of the highest order. And, Duke is now harder to get into than Brown or Penn.

Also I wouldn't look on DCUM for serious advice on this topic: looking at some of these comments it's clear there's a weird population of people going out of their way to misinform about Duke.

+1 They are also pretty different. A friend's kid was accepted at both, preferred Duke but our friends were caught up in the Ivy thing so convinced the DC to go to Penn. DC transferred after a year because it wasn't a fit.

Transferred to Duke you mean? Is that easy or common

I believe Duke has a 3-7% transfer acceptance rate.

2021-2022 Transfer Student Application Cycle
Applications: 1958
Admitted Students: 86
Matriculated Students: 60
Admit Rate: 3%

I agree that Duke is a step up from UVA and UNC. Still, I can’t figure out why it’s rated so high academically compared to other top ten schools.

+1 when you start looking at the academic programs at Duke, their overall ranking makes no sense being in the top 10

And Penn is an Ivy

You realize the Duke lacrosse issue was #fakenews. Prosecutor went to jail and lost his law license for bringing a case that had no merit. And accused players and the coach all received multimillion in settlements. Go woke go broke….

They still were guilty of hiring strippers and then verbally abusing them.
