Maybe FCPS should start listening and fix this.

Actually Fairfax County has some areas that have addtional taxes that others do not. These include transportation zones and Mclean and Reston get whacked on community centers. Reston got it to fund a county floated construction bond that was paid off in maybe 1999. No regionally local charges for Mount Vernon HS converson, Laurel Hill etc.

Herndon and Vienna have town taxes. Reston and Mclean are not towns. https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/taxes/real-estate/tax-rates

Maybe because our tax assessments have gone through the roof and we’d like our kids to have functional bathrooms.

Quite possibly a Langley kid seeing this as a way to poke at a rival school.

Some areas of the county have much nicer amenities that other parts, and they have taxing zones to cover those amenities. I'm sure people in the southern part of the county would be fine with the yellow line extending south instead of the silver line west.

So you resent the Silver Line existing when Yellow and Blue are just fine? Find the airport and tech center /employment hubs south on the yellow line. FYI -Mason District rep brought up special tax district queston years ago on this https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/publicworks/capital-projects/original-mount-vernon-high-school
https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/neighborhood-community-services/lorton-community-center

Exactly what

Would rather have crime than additional traffic deaths.

It won’t happen, but this would be a good reason for McLean residents to lobby their General Assembly reps to let McLean incorporate as a Class-2 city within Fairfax County. Falls Church City has its own schools as a Class-2 city in Arlington County. Fairfax City could do so, but chooses to contract with FCPS for schools.

A class-2 city is not subject to County Taxes, but does share the district courts with the county. McLean taxes would stay in McLean. McLean could have its own school system, and control its own zoning, ad so on. It also could have its own Fire/Police services; FCC has a joint arrangement with Arlington County for Fire & Rescue, somthat is another option.

Property taxes based on % of home value? Yes, it's a choice.

Mismanagement of funds by fcps

Capital expenses like building renovations have to be voted on by the electorate, but sure continue to blame FCPS.

The county packages a bunch of projects together when school bonds are on the ballot. If 80% of the projects make sense the bonds will always get approved but that doesn’t mean the other 20% isn’t waste. Nor does it mean FCPS is necessarily prioritizing the right projects.
