Grab and go breakfast or lunch is preferred to anything that has to be dished out or a food truck. I realistically only have about 15 minutes to eat after I check for urgent emails, go to the bathroom, and refill my water bottle.
I love when it’s something like Panera breakfast— I can munch on a bagel and drink Panera coffee while I get my classroom ready for students. |
That’s not the reason. We don’t have time to go through any type of “bar” or “make your own” during the day. Yes, I appreciate the thought but often it’s more for the PTA to take photos and post. I’m also a parent and see that side, the constant asking for volunteers for this stuff. Many of us don’t go to any of it. |
You assume we eat lunch in the faculty room, which almost no one does. I eat in a classroom with the teachers around me. We aren’t walking to the other side of the school to grab ice cream. We have a class to teach. |
I’ve responded to a couple of posts. Honestly? Nothing. No food. I bring my own. If you want to do something, send me a nice email or a card. That would be greatly appreciated and I would be touched. The truth is most of us do not look forward to this week. At best, it’s a disruption. At worst, it gives us more to do. |
My FCPS HS did a staff lunch/ice cream bar and was well received. Everything was done and provided by the admin/students. no parental involvement. I haven't heard of ES's doing this. |
And our school has a massive culinary arts program so we make our own food/ice cream ![]() |
As a middle school teacher, I'd strongly prefer a grab and go lunch over breakfast. I get to the building at 7:00 and students arrive in my room at 7:10. I don't have time for a breakfast. No food is allowed in my classroom so I can't just eat a breakfast while students are in the room. |
One time we did a huge Thanksgiving lunch - ham, chicken, corn pudding, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, hawaiian rolls, sweet potato pie, apple pie, pecan pie, salad etc. The teachers devoured it! There were 4 parents who put it all together and KFC provided the chicken. It was amazing. We did three shifts. It was a lot of work though. PTA board put it together. No contribution from other parents because we were a very poor school and most of the parents on the PTA board would basically pay for these things from their own pocket. |
The other half of teachers can't afford to go out to eat on their salary and are happy for the meals this week. |
still waiting .... I thought I was going to get some breakfast nothing yet..... ( I wanted to call in sick today), didn't because of the free food... |
Is Teacher Appreciation Week this week? |
So you complain you're not appreciated. Then complain when something is done in appreciation. Got it. I've always done my best to donate/volunteer for this stuff but I guess I'll rethink it if htis is the attitude. |
I'd rather have the cash (or gift card ) that youd spend on this than a mediocre boxed lunch.

+1 yep. The parent who came up with this idea is the “idiot.” |
+1 yes that too. Any type of “bar” where we have to assemble our food is too time consuming. Grab and go is easier like Panera. |
