Working parents: when do you get home?

His salary had better start with at least a 3 in a good way with an attitude like that.

I pick the kids up and get home around 5, and make dinner. DH arrives home at 6:45, and does clean-up. The trade-off is that he drops them off in the morning.

I work in DC and live in Arlington. I go to the office 2 or 3 times a week. I leave around 415 or 430 and am home by 500. DH has a similar commute and we also stagger wfh and office days. He is also home around 500. I don't think the DC office culture for parents is to work late. Even before I had kids I remember my bosses leaving at 430 and id be like, oh I didn't realize it was the end of the day.

Figure out your balance now because when elementary school comes along you have way less flexibility, and way more evening activities and things your kids need you for. You can get away with working late when your kids are babies but they notice when they get older.

To the extent there was a culture of staying late in DC, it’s over post pandemic. People leave to avoid the bad rush but then log back in later.
