Agree. I'm a CIS woman, and I shave my mustache with a tinkle razor (also available on Amazon ), and everytime that commercial comes on I watch because I like the message it's sending (minus the part about finding happiness through Amazon).

This is not a good analogy, because anyone can choose (or not) to wear trousers. Meanwhile, few women can grow a mustache without hormone treatment. So it will always seem "mannish" to grow a mustache, and facial hair will always be associated with men.

This ad feels too contrived, it’s trying too hard to be woke

As a Queen fan, the only thing I like about it is that it features a not very well known song. A lot of Queen songs get too much airplay but this one’s kind of obscure. It has a nice funky vibe and has Freddie Mercury singing in falsetto all through the song

no one is trying to grow a mustache as a fashion statement. We are just trying to point out that it's ridiculous to be disgusted by a little bit of facial hair on a women's upper lip that grew there naturally.

I’m too old to know or care what that means. Just saying that cultural norms are always in flux. Takes brave souls to be the first to go against the grain and endure the kind of insults we’re seeing here. Some of these end up being micro movements that fizzle out, but sometimes they resonate with a wider swath young people, “Madison Ave” takes notice and sees an opportunity to make money on what the youth think is cool, and they eventually become completely unremarkable parts of everyday life. Too soon to say what we have here.

Excessive body hair is not my cup of tea, but good for these girls for accepting their bodies as they are.

Lots and lots of women have natural mustaches—some very faint, some quite pronounced—requiring no hormone treatments.

The thing about ads is this: they should resonate with the most people in a positive way.

I’ll never understand why marketing firms think showcasing something that isn’t likely to resonate with most women will yield positive results. Face it: you rarely see a woman with a mustache IRL. It’s not a good look.

There are other ways to convey nonconformity. A Mohawk. Purple hair. A granny in a moto jacket. A teen in coastal grandma gear.

Haven’t seen the ad, but the bolded is going to vary depending on where you live and what kind of crowd your kid runs with. I have a teenage daughter in a school for performing and visual arts, and there is a whole lot of body and facial hair going on in the born-female crowd. So much so that I hardly register it on young women anymore. There is definitely a conscious radical self-acceptance movement among a certain group of young women and they absolutely couldn’t care less who they offend.

I love that. Whether it's hair, body type, etc. It's about time women learned to love themselves.

Yeah, I definitely read this as more of a let your armpit hair grow, non-conformist thing as opposed to trans acceptance.

Agreed! I'd love the next generation to loosen the stringent rules of beauty and find comfort with themselves and others.
