Actually prices have fallen tremendously. But not to $50/carat or anything like that. |
Sorry, I wasn’t clear. The cut of any stone is what makes a difference so you want a good cut on any stone. |
|
Can someone explain the price difference between lab and real?
And is it true the lab have no resale value? Little secret about real diamonds and fancy watches is that people like them so they can travel with an asset they can quickly turn into cash. |
The price of Lightbox lab diamonds have increased since the start of the pandemic. They also now have two grades. They used to sell their 1 CT stud earrings $1,000 per pair; now its gone up to $1,200 and $2,000 for their "Finest" quality studs. The basic ones are VS clarity, Near Colorless and Very Good cut: https://lightboxjewelry.com/products/earrings-1carat-tw-solitaire-14k-gold-studs-white The "Finest" studs are VVS clarity, Colorless and Excellent cut. https://lightboxjewelry.com/collections/earrings-studs/products/earrings-1carat-finest-solitaire-studs-white-1 |
I mean that’s not an actual price increase, it’s a new product line. The previous diamonds were “basic” quality. |
Because there is no actual mining involved any more. Surely you can see the difference? |
| NP- but surely you can see that DeBeers has made money off of horrible practices and only entered the lab business in an effort to support prices of their mined gems. If they had switched from mined to lab completely, I could see how you could justify buying from them as positive reinforcement. There are other sources of lab diamonds that are a much better value and much less troubling ethics |
Better value? Links please! The lab market was primarily horrified when they entered by their prices, which were much lower than sellers at the time. |
I highly doubt the ones who really know includes you. Who cares? Is the point to have a pretty piece of jewelry or to brag about the cost? |
The point is to have a piece of jewelry that very possibly was wrested from the ground by a child and to brag about the cost. And then, apparently, to hock it the first chance you get. |
Oh please. You're just trying to justify all the money you wasted on mined diamonds. OP, please don't buy Lightbox, DeBeers is a TERRIBLE company. Brilliant Earth is great, as is Blue Nile. |
Yep, multiple moms at my kids' private school have complimented me on my 4 carat "diamond" that is actually a moissanite. |
I believe you meant to say "mined diamonds". Lab diamonds are grown from diamond seeds, and made from the exact same components -- they are also "natural". |
Not all cuts. Have you ever seen an emerald cut moissanite? I doubt it. Stop regurgitating things you read on Wikipedia. |
Did you tell them? |
