I have been wanting a pair of diamond stud earrings and DH wants to get them for me for our anniversary. We looked at a few places and the size I want is very expensive. A friend mentioned that I should check out lab grown diamonds because they are just as good quality-wise but so much less.
I have checked out a few brands online but is this too good to be true? Is there any down side to a lab grown diamond? Do they look fake - haven’t seen them in person yet since many brands are online only. Are they just as durable? Anyone have expertise on this? |
| Look at Lightbox. They’re owned by De Beers. |
| Lab grown diamonds are diamonds. They are ma made but they are indistinguishable from natural diamonds except that they are usually more flawless. It’s crazy. They aren’t fakes or replicas or similar-to-but-not actual diamonds like CZ. They are actual diamonds. |
| I have a large lab sapphire ring. It’s gorgeous. Would never pay for or stand for the ethics of a mined stone again. |
| They are great. I have some. And I can’t actually look at people who want “real” diamonds with any sort of respect any more. |
| Oh please! If you can't afford a real diamond then you should not be wearing diamonds. It's like wearing a knock off rolex. Those who know, know |
Hard agree. They don't look as warm IRL |
I can easily afford real diamonds. I just hate the fact they are blood soaked monstrosities. When people insist on “real” diamonds instead of lab grown, they are advertising “the death and violence other people suffered is the thing I like above all else.” It is disgusting. Like I see people with “real” diamonds and I feel genuine disgust. |
Not true. Also stones like moissanite are indistinguishable IRL. I challenge you to tell us the difference. I can hold a moissanite next to my diamond in multiple lights and can't yell the difference with the naked eye. Under a microscope is different, but I work with gems for a living. |
| I got lab grown Diamond studs for Christmas. They look like and are real diamonds. Nobody can tell, the difference. |
Those who know, know that lab diamonds are by Jewelers standards, usually better than natural diamonds. It’s not a knock off. It’s real. |
| What would be a reasonable price to pay for .75 tw lab or moissanite studs? |
| I understand the ethical argument of lab-grown diamonds but if you are buying from DeBeers are you not just enriching the perpetrators of the mined diamond horrors? I really dont see how its better. DeBeers jumped into lab-grown so they could continue to control the mkt. |

I don't really understand that argument. You are showing them that it's worth putting resources into the ethical diamonds instead of the unethical ones - why wouldn't you want to show Big Diamond that this is where consumer trends are heading? |
