So we’ve moved on from the UMC canard and now we’re on to poor people. Poverty does not cause intellectual or learning disabilities. Students undergo extensive testing to rule out other factors that might associated with delays but are not a disability. But we are getting better at identifying kids, particularly those with learning disabilities. And some learning Disabilities are more common than most people realize. |
Parent from Loudoun here. We were fighting with VDOE well before anyone knew Youngkin. We had Special Ed staff who routinely called cps on parents who complained when their children were abused with seclusion and restraint. |
This! Parents of neurotypical children have no idea how much money the school systems spend on very expensive lawyers - they don't bother with reasonably priced lawyers, to fight trivial issues. You would not believe how the school system fought us on a simple accommodation for my child that cost nothing and required few resources. It was a standard accommodation that had been recommended every year by every school for my kid. We complained when kid did not get services one year and the school tried to hide it but ended up giving us compensatory tiem and the special ed teacher decided to become vindictive and tried to take away the few accommodations my kid had. |
Stay out of this conversation. You have no idea what you are talking about. |
What a bunch of useless word salad. |
Not pp. Hogwash. They have no power. |
What a lie. Most every parent I know has had this thrown at them and it is a disgusting sentiment. |
100% correct, the habitually violent kids allowed to terrorize everyone else... Thank DoE for that. And administrators and school board. |
No, you did not... The absolute ignorance here. |
Here she is. It's the crazy lady who loves to hate on children with disabilities and refer to them as chair throwers. You are vile and ignorant. |
When Kennedy Krieger can make good money selling evaluations for 5k that most insurance won't touch, it's UMC parents making sure their kid can suck up as much resources as possible |
DP here and not a Republican. I also think if things continue on their current path, public schools will simply be for pIEP and anyone who can’t scrape together money for private. Ignore the issue at your peril. |
No you have this backwards. They are not providing a semblance of an education to the 15% with disabilities. The 85% non disabled get a much better education. |
+1 Ditto to everything you said, but the PP lost me at "unfounded mandate." |
What an ignorant comment. Schools have no requirement to accept an outside diagnosis. Zip. Zero. Nada. Don't care how much a parent spent to get it. Also are you really suggesting that Kennedy Krieger sells phony evaluations? There are lots of good reasons to get a private diagnosis. Getting one to get a kid a phony evaluation in the hopes of getting something from the system is not one of them. |
