Nadeau & Street Vendors

With the street vendors, you absolutely don’t know. It’s not safe.

Maybe DC should hire street food inspectors? Job creation!

Why not? Right after the violence interrupters

I had no idea the District went full blown libertarian. I guess if you get sick from an unlicensed food vendor then you have to leave a bad review and put them out of business.

No, I just don’t patronize unsanitary businesses. I do my shopping at the Aurora

Has anyone noticed the number of basic toiletries (stolen items) that are sold by street vendors? Might as well come from your impoverished country and sell mango slices on the street to provide local flavor to the residents. Maybe Nadeau’s office can do a street vendors of Columbia Heights calendar and sell it to raise funds for the vendors.

Nadeau is a load. Hopefully Nadeau and her grifter husband will decide it’s time to move to greener pastures but as Nadeau doesn’t have any skills beyond sucking off of the public teat it doesn’t look likely. Even if we’re blessed we’ll end-up with someone like Sabel Harris or Czapary who possess even fewer skills than Nadeau.

I’ll vote for Czapary

Nadeau has not won a majority of the Ward 1 voters over in the last several elections. More than 50% of voters want "not Nadeau" they just can't agree on who so the vote gets split and she wins with like 40% of the vote. It is a failure of the current electoral system, don't blame this on Ward 1 voters! Most of us don't want her!

The regular vending investigators- I think there are only two for the whole city - don't handle food inspection and cannot confiscate goods from illegal vendors. With this proposal, it is straight up societal change pushed by Council.

Just so I understand, what's the strongest argument for street vendors? That they bring culture and liveliness to 14th? That they provide employment opportunities for marginalized people?

I think it's the last point you made. Vending is a form of entrepreneurship and those who engage in it must clearly be independent sole proprietors.

Today’s the day the council further destroys DC business by allowing “street vendors” to operate in DC.

Performative equity!

I dont even care about the food safety issues as much as turning our sidewalks into flea markets and looking like a third world country. Most of the crap on 14th is stolen shit from CVS (why do you think so much is locked up CVS), some horrible "artwork" , belts, socks and more crap made in china.
Is this really the "vibrancy" that Columbia Heights needs?
