I love the name Angie! I’ve known some great Angies.

I've only known one Angie and she was not great.

Which is why parents should think before they name their children.

Parents do think. They just have different tastes in names. There is not actually a definitive list of "good" names. If you don't like someone's names, that's just an aesthetic preference you have that is no more valid than the preferences of someone who likes that name.

You need to learn that what you like and don't like is really only interesting to you and maybe a small group of people who value your opinion. Why should someone care more about what you think of their name, or their kid's name, than they do? That makes no sense.

And it would serve you well to follow what you preached here.

Uh... what?

You’re dense.

Okay, I'm dense. Explain in what way I am not following what I "preached" above.

Like James and Jamie but not Jim or Jimmy.

I agree with all of these!

My son is named Sam, that is what's on his birth certificate. People cannot get their minds around the fact that he's not a Samuel.

My sister is Amanda, she always hated Mandy but people will still call her that.

Your son’s name is like Joe or Bob.

My FIL was named Rick - not Richard, just Rick.

Sam is a nickname. You cannot be serious.

My DS is a "Samuel", but we've never ever called him that. To us and to everyone, he's "Sam" or "Sammy"

Same for some women, particularly in this area, who go by

“Ronny.” Have heard it several times in conversation.

Just awful. And, why??

Sometimes it is a nn for VeRONica, which I think is cute

Love Katherine and Kate. Can’t do Katie or Kathy.

Love Charlotte, Victoria, Rebecca, just no to all nicknames.

I have two girls and this was a huge deal when naming - we needed something nickname-proof.

Sorry, there are no nickname proof names. If it’s too unusual, your me kid may get the initial letter nickname or something unexpected.

+2, having a Samuel any day now (!) but pretty sure we will only ever call him Sammy or Sam (two older kids already call him Sammy).

My husband wanted to name our older son Nico but I insisted we call him Nicolas, but have never actually addressed him as Nicolas.

You need a resume name!
