Just for fun: like the full name but not the nickname, like the nickname but not the full name

I know someone who gave her DD a beautiful three syllable name and, confoundingly, DD and her school friends have shortened it to the last-two syllables. It's a fairly uncommon name so I don't want to say it because it's not my DD's name to share. But it would be like if you named your DD Miranda and she and her friends decided to shorten it to "Anda." Like... it's not a name or known nickname, it is actually kind of hard say (as opposed to many nicknames which tend to be easier to pronounce than the full name), it doesn't sound endearing at all. I do not get it. I think my friend is bummed even though she smiles through it. I don't understand why someone with a lovely name with purposefully choose an ugly nickname!

As someone who has watched The Sopranos, I have to mention that Adriana is not nickname -proof, despite what a previous Adriana said.

"Ade! Ade!" I'm glad that no one's called her Ade.

I'm an Elizabeth and hate all the nicknames, especially Liz, which seems to be the default.

I knew a Rebecca who managed to get everyone to quit calling her Becky and use Bexa instead. It suited her much better.

I like Elizabeth but not Betsy or Beth. Not fond of Liz, but I don't actively dislike it either.

I like Zeke but not Ezekiel. It's my grandfather's name and he never went by Ezekiel.

Love Katherine and Kate. Can’t do Katie or Kathy.

Love Charlotte, Victoria, Rebecca, just no to all nicknames.

[i]I have two girls and this was a huge deal when naming - [i]we needed something nickname-proof.

Same. Picked Audrey thinking it was nickname proof only to have a random family members shorten it to “Aud” so cringe…

Meh. Its like Mary, Marianna, Merryn being called Mare.

Yeah, but “Aud” just sounds dumb. Also sounds like odd.

We have a Jacob, but we mainly call him Jake which I like better anyway and in hindsight, Jake should have been his given name.
