Love Charlie but not Charles (I don't like the mouth feel of saying "Charles")
I love nicknames, so we only looked at names that had multiple nicknames. I've always been disappointed that I didn't have a nickname. I really like that you can call a baby one thing, a child another and then they choose a different nickname as an adult. Names should grow like that. |
I’m also a non-nicknamed person, and I wished to have one. I understand what you mean! |
Same. My name is non-nicknamable. I always wished it was. |
The two big ones for me are:
Veronica (hate Ronnie) Victoria (hate both Vicki and Tori) I really love both of those full names but couldn't use either for a baby name because I would have been one of those moms policing nicknames ("no, it's Veronica, don't shorten it") and I think that's stressful. And I'm glad because I gave my DD a four-syllable name (I really love longer names like this) and sure enough, she has wound up with a nickname and I'm so, so glad it's not "Ronnie" or "Vicki" which would annoy me every time I heard it. I don't like my DD's nickname as much as her full name, but it doesn't annoy me and it's even endearing. |
Love Henry, hate Hank. |
My name does lend itself to shortening and nicknames, but I agree with this and it was a major factor in picking a name for me. I wanted a name that, if you shortened it, would still sound good to me, and also that leant itself to some cute childhood nicknames. I actually think a lot of people feel this way because so many of the popular names have this feature of a longer name that has a "cute" childhood nickname and a more adult "short version". I get the appeal of shorter names but I really liked giving my child more flexibility than that, so depending on her personality or preferences, there would be a version of her name she'd connect to. And sure enough, she loves her nickname and prefers that to her full name. Which is fine with me because that was part of the draw of the name in the first place. |
I agree with all of these! My son is named Sam, that is what's on his birth certificate. People cannot get their minds around the fact that he's not a Samuel. My sister is Amanda, she always hated Mandy but people will still call her that. |
Sam is a nickname. You cannot be serious. |
You guys are sick. People have no control over their names. |
Gus.
I do not like Augustus |
Your son’s name is like Joe or Bob. |
