This incident at the library was awful for those involved, but what exactly do you want your city to DO about it other than provide space and services to those who are most vulnerable among us?

For reference, I do not live in upper northwestia ward three, but in Shaw. I am more afraid of being hit by a car blowing through a red light, something that happens at nearly every traffic light I pass than I am worried about violent crime.

For starters, you could rearrange your priorities and acknowledge that very old people and little kids are "the most vulnerable among us," not violent drug addicted vagrants.

This is an important point. If the city does not prioritize protecting safe and peaceful public spaces like parks and libraries and schools, then the social fabric deteriorates for everyone especially those on the margin. It does nobody any good to turn libraries into homeless shelters. Including the homeless. We can both be empathetic to the homeless and protect our commons.

Wow Shaw where random shootings happen? Shaw is immune to car jackings? I have only lived in DC for seven years but its only gotten worse. I live on one of the worst blocks of Anacostia.

I never vote Republican EXCEPT in local DC races. The problem is that there are very few of them to vote for! I miss Carol Schwartz!

And to your point about cars blowing through stop signs and lights - people do this because they know there are no consquences for not following traffic laws.

Another middle aged person here and I agree with you. For much of my life I have considered myself a liberal democrat. And I have become very cynical and beaten down by the lawlessness.

Would you consider voting for Middle ground candidates, including republicans for local government?

This year, I voted for all the viable conservative-moderates in the local elections. I also donated to them. Same for last cycle. I will continue to do this until I move away because I can’t stand it anymore and VRBO my gorgeous DC house to tourists.

I’ve been here almost 15 years and never experienced crime or felt especially unsafe. I did get my purse stolen once, but it was my own fault for leaving it unattended. I don’t understand people who make it sound like DC is a warzone— where are they spending time?

Yes. DP here and I was ready to vote for the trump supporting former cop who ran against nadeau. I have been in city for over 2 years. I feel like my tween is developing a fear of black males.after seeing them smoking weed and cursing and littering at the playground and on the corner.
