ANCs still can't do anything but make statements. Run for Mayor. |
If you’re a parent, don’t let your kids sit next to homeless dudes at the computers. And there should be dedicated areas where only kids & caregivers are allowed. |
Thank you. I appreciate your vote. Although I believe, DC will have to move to a run-off system for both the Council and Mayor positions for that to happen.... |
Should I ask each of the people in the library first? Or you just mean visibly homeless. |
visibly homeless, drug addicted, or mentally ill. no, you do not let your young children sit unattended next to them. |
The chronic homeless seem easy to recognize due to the condition the life of homelesses has put them in I think... In our library the small kids section is limited to kids and their caregivers which is helpful for this issue, but I am not sure if there is a computer bank JUST for students. I think they put time limits on the computer, but honestly would be better if they set aside ones for students doing actual research. |

Most new dc library redesigns make sure the childrens area with computers is separate from the general population area with computers.
If you make places for only homeless people to go, they don't want to go there because it's only homeless people, a la the shelters. I do like the idea of having a no large bag policy, though that doesn't stop knives from getting in. |
| Wait, carrying a knife isn't illegal in a library, right? I sometimes have a small folding knife or multi-tool with a knife on me. |
| it's like Purge every day up in here. |
Purge was about homeless people killing each other and then the murderer gets arrested and charged? Maybe I need to go rewatch that movie. |
I didn't watch it. My understanding is it is about violent free for all, which DC seems to be right now yes. |
"In an America ravaged by crime and overcrowded prisons, the government sanctions an annual 12-hour period during which all criminal activity -- including murder -- is legal." So, not even close? The police were called and the guy was arrested. Bystanders subdued the attacker and didn't run off on an orgy of violence. It's like you replaced your brains with "crime crime crime". |
Nothing to see here. Just a man getting stabbed to death right next to some children in a public library. What? Like it’s such a big deal? Go back to MAGA land, or something. |
| It's shit like this EVERY DAY that beats down those of us who live here until we just can't manage anymore. I have become a worse person during the 18 years i have lived in DC. I used to pick up litter. I used to talk to people and engage and check in with folks. I could be a bystander that intervened. At this point in my life (middle age) I am freaking OVER IT. If i see homeless people i ignore them and move on. If I see a group of teenagers I GTFO of the way. I lock my car doors incessantly. I worry every day my kids are going to be the witness of victims of a senseless act of violence perpetrated by someone "who just needs restorative justice". I would LOVE to vote for someone, anyone for public office that actually had the capacity and political motivation to DO something besides stand in front of a microphone and say the same thing over and over. |
| Yeah, and things like that Murdaugh guy are why we need to start putting restrictions on wealthy homeowners too. What they do is disgusting. |
