Thoughts on the name Meredith?

It’s refreshing because it is easy to pronounce, neither common or uncommon, and traditionally spelled. I put it in the same category as Adrienne, Mallory, Laurel, Courtney, and Amanda. Go for it!

I think Meredith is more like Claudia or Adrienne or Laurel.

Courtney or Amanda seem different and more valley girl to me.

Well, it's not an English name, is it? It's Welsh.

Right. It's Welsh, but we speak English here, primarily, in the US, so you can see where the problem comes in.

It’s a Welsh name, means guardian of the ocean. More boys name there and pronounced mur-AH-dith.

I mean, it's not difficult to pronounce. It isn't as if only English names are used in the US.

I’m just sharing that because most people haven’t been to Wales and would not know that unless you go there, not for any other reason.

Love it!

I wonder if it’s: too long? Too light/not serious enough? Prone to nicknames?

Thoughts and opinions, please!

I love it! It does feel slightly seious to me, but I mean that in a good way. Meri is a sweet nickname if it suits here. If not, Meredith is great!

Meredith and her BFF Heather are headed to the mall to hang out on this beautiful day in March.

Ok. I think you're missing my point. Anyway, as a Meredith, it's weird and it's fine.

Pretty, and I've liked every Meredith I've met. But not "wow!" amazing.

Many years ago, I shared that I disliked a particular name. My best friend responded immediately: "That's my mother's name." I learned my lesson.

So what would her nickname be when she gets older? Mere or Edith?

You always have to think of the nicknames, because it is a long name. People tend to shorten their names as they get older. Jonathan becomes Jon, Samantha becomes Sam, and on and on. Only mom calls me Samantha...

My kids are grown, just my two cents.
