thread hijack question--I have gas stove/rabge (in home I an renting), and it seems to boil water very slowly on range (much slower than electric stove), is this unusual? Does the stove need to be replaced/fixed? Also, I smell gas for a few min when I turn stove on, is this normal?

Meh. Electric ranges are harder to use and less efficient due to the time needed to heat the burner. Further, the overall efficiency of a combined cycle gas turbine power plant used to generate the electricity is about 60%.
