OP thinks she's the center of everything. They probably dislike you and your kids. Just pick up your kids early if you don't want to be traumatized

At least 5 times over the last two months, I have noticed 9 kids in a room with only two teachers present with some new child whose is out of town and traveling with his mother. Moreover everyday the teachers are rushing to leave the daycare at 5pm and since the daycare opens till 5:45pm they put all kids whose parents have not picked them up yet (12-36 and up sometimes) in one room My husband count 12 kids of various ages and only 2 teachers present. Is it typica; to other daycares as well? My concern is if they disregard that rule, what other rules they ignore ?

Can you be specific OP? Are you in Virginia? Is it a small daycare of 5kids or large family daycare of 12 kids? In Maryland is 8 total for a small family daycare and 10 for a large family

daycare

I am in DC, the daycare center has kids of all ages in various groups. The group should be 8 with 2 teachers or 9 with three for my child age

If you don't like having the kids at pick up time in the same room then go pick up your child ON TIME. Whiny OP.

I hope they kicked you out for annoying. That's their right. They they end the contract anytime.

The daycare is open till 5:45, I pick my child ON TIME

Go pick up early like 3 or 4pm if you hate seeing kids together

Why do I have to pick my child early? I work and that is why my child is in the daycare. Before COVID this specific childcare was open till 6:00pm and even till 6:30 at some point.

Thank you but I would rather send some inspectors over to make sure the other rules are not violated

Says the horrible shady storefront daycare owner. Run.

I got the sense that yes, for whatever reason the teachers do not understand that simple fact that some of us have to work till 5 and getting to the daycare in DC is seconds in physically impossible. I have friends in New York and Los Angeles, they do not have that problem, and they pass less tuition, it seems local DC area problem.

In Maryland a family child care can be up to 8 children or if it’s up to 12 it can be a “Large family child care”, not a center. A center is a different beast.

Centers ratios are 3 infants 1 teacher, family daycare is 2 for 1 teacher.

1 person can care 10 kids older than 2 years old. I would prefer 2 people there. Since there's two adults they can have 6 infants and 10 kids ages 2- 6 years old

you are wrong for 12-24, 8 kids and 2 adults, 9 kids and three adults it is listed on

Or 6 infants and 5 toddlers with 2 teachers.
The law says 1 teacher can be with 12 kids. Crazy but true

which law? In DC the licenced center has to have at most 1:4 ratio

I don't think the early educators like your kids...

I do not think early educators like any kids , they are so eager to run away from their workplace as it is the most dreadful place on earth

I have worked in daycares. It happens at some point in all daycares. You can complain to licensing.

They usually call that day and say they will be visiting. Even if they come and find ratios are off, they just send someone into the room while the inspector is there and the director will say what they plan to do to prevent, and they will submit a plan and that's it. It doesn't prevent it in practice from happening again.

If it's the end of the day, and there are 2 teachers with 9 kids, based on my experience, that is a good ratio for end of day.

Of course, I finish at 5:00, I have to close the office/lab, go through some security procedure before leaving the building which is upto 20 minutes (depending on the protocol), get to the center another up 20 minutes (depending on the traffic) . I don't even go to the bathroom to save time
But I do not understand why it is a problem if the daycare CLOSES AT 5:45pm.

I see it is common and probably teachers just really hate their job so they cannot wait to leave and no inspector can fix that
