Are white kitchens out?

There’s an unsurprising move toward warmer tones. Because if styles don’t change, designers don’t make money.

I like the current trend of mixing finishes with something different for the island or uppers/lowers, but think it will end up being a very dated look.

This only works in a very large kitchen. Looks like a mash up in a small kitchen.

Disagree. I have a white kitchen and I like that I can see when a cabinet or the backsplash needs to be wiped.

+1 We've had a white kitchen for 30 years. I never tire of white cabinets and hardwood floors.

white cabinets get tired and grimy very easily.

I don’t k ow about tired, but grimy? That’s what weekly cleaners are for. You are a total slob if you leave something dripping.

PP here. Maybe it's the finish? We haven't had that problem. Benjamin Moore White Dove.

Nancy Meyer's recently remodeled white kitchen in AD

Whole house tour bc I probably did the image wrong: https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/nancy-meyers-los-angeles

Point being - done correctly, white is timeless, not trendy. As others have said, stark white is out but a classic white kitchen with a traditional floor will never be a bad investment. But if you're asking if it's the cool kid on the block, nope.

- I just installed a white kitchen in my new build

Posting the white kitchen:

But also, can we agree on the ridiculousness of this photo

Thank you!!🤣

That kitchen has glass cabinets. While the dishes inside are white, I have dishes of varying colors which would likely clash with the look of the kitchen.

Off whites are “in”

I renovated my kitchen four years ago, it’s white, and I love it. To me it’s timeless and I’d do it again. Any neutral is timeless, but of course any kitchen- cabinetry and appliances- are going to show their age eventually.

Do what you love, not what’s trendy.

You know what's in? Whatever you like.

Green is not in lol

Dark green.

Mine is dark green, but I did it 10 years ago. It's true what they say.. a fad comes back every 10 years. I was just a head of my time. I love my green kitchen. Beats depressing grays.

Don't do white. It gets dirty very easily, and looks dingy in no time. It looks great in magazines and when you show off your home, but for everyday living, it's not really practical.

I kept my cherry cabinets from the 90s because I love them. I knew they’d come back in style one day!

White kitchens are never out because many people like them. Others do not. But this whole idea that they're out is weird because they are never out. Sometimes they become more popular but they are never unpopular.

A lot of people like light and airy spaces. White kitchens give you light and airy more easily than wood or other colors. And that is why white kitchens are always "in" regardless of your personal views.

Anonymous wrote:White on white on white is out but you can still do white cabinets with a statement countertop (think Calcutta with heavy graining, or warm toned graining on white) and a backsplash that isn’t white subway tile. Carry the stone up the for the backsplash for a classic and high-end look. Brass hardware is also in right now but will probably go out soon but is easy and cheap to change out. Or stick with brushed nickel to stand the rest of time, but go with more substantial and sleek pieces to modernize it.

Also white farmhouse sinks are out.

Nope. They aren’t.

DP. They’ve been out for a few years now.

How are they out? Pp just posted a brand new Nancy Myer’s kitchen and there’s a farm sink there. I always said they would go out of style and I was wrong. That was 2005.

That was sarcasm right?

After seeing this atrocity posted by John L in the yelp review, I would rather have a plain old oak kitchen. The before looks better than the so called modern black and white

My parents in the 90s had white cabinets with navy blue Corian counters and white and navy blue square tile backsplash. I thought it was beautiful when I was a kid.
I just got white cabinets, soapstone counters and green tile.
The white cabinet white counter white tile look was overdone by flippers which is why it is out now.

No. The #1 thing dating the cabinets is the profile of the door.

White is classic- always in style. Right now light wood and little color is very in- give it a few years and it will be something else- design industry does this on purpose.
