Are white kitchens out?

Anonymous
I think white cabinets are pretty timeless, it's the accessories around them that date them.
My parents in the 90s had white cabinets with navy blue Corian counters and white and navy blue square tile backsplash. I thought it was beautiful when I was a kid.
I just got white cabinets, soapstone counters and green tile.
The white cabinet white counter white tile look was overdone by flippers which is why it is out now.

Whether it is or isn't doesn't matter, we have what we have and aren't changing it any time soon.

White uppers. soft sage-green lowers, black hardware. Get over it.

Disagree. I have a white kitchen and I like that I can see when a cabinet or the backsplash needs to be wiped.

+1 We've had a white kitchen for 30 years. I never tire of white cabinets and hardwood floors.

white cabinets get tired and grimy very easily.

They are still in

Exhibit A:

Nancy Meyer's recently remodeled white kitchen in AD

Whole house tour bc I probably did the image wrong: https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/nancy-meyers-los-angeles

Point being - done correctly, white is timeless, not trendy. As others have said, stark white is out but a classic white kitchen with a traditional floor will never be a bad investment. But if you're asking if it's the cool kid on the block, nope.

- I just installed a white kitchen in my new build

Carry the stone up the for the backsplash for a classic and high-end look. Brass hardware is also in right now but will probably go out soon but is easy and cheap to change out. Or stick with brushed nickel to stand the rest of time, but go with more substantial and sleek pieces to modernize it.

Also white farmhouse sinks are out.

Nope. They aren’t.

DP. They’ve been out for a few years now.

I don't know that they are so much out, as what is in is a transformed farmhouse sink in marble or quartzite. Sounds hugely impractical to me.

Posting the white kitchen:

But also, can we agree on the ridiculousness of this photo

OP it’s very dangerous to look at pictures of just kitchens. Because your starting point should always be the architecture of your house and the actual space you have. What looks great in a magazine can look terrible shoehorned into a house from a different era. What looks amazing with huge windows in California might look awful in your 40’s colonial. Magazines and pictures are fine but start with your house, start with your house, start with your house.

The kitchens with blue cabinets I have seen lately are gorgeous but I wonder how it will age.

I think white is classic (I did mine 20+ years ago, modeled after my grandmother’s), but it’s becoming less ubiquitous.

There’s an unsurprising move toward warmer tones. Because if styles don’t change, designers don’t make money.

I like the current trend of mixing finishes with something different for the island or uppers/lowers, but think it will end up being a very dated look.

Of course designers love that because it will be dated in five years and people will pay them again.

White is always in. Makes it easy to change colors. For me I have classic inset kitchen cabinets. I’m ripping out the backsplash and putting a new warm color in. I’m also changing the light fixtures to a rattan for texture. I already have a French range so I’m moving toward a Mediterranean look. Very easy and inexpensive change that changes the entire look of the kitchen.

I love having white cabinets for flexibility. Future changes can have a big impact with low cost.
