PP here. That should read "endorsement" not nomination. The committee decides who gets the endorsement. It is not a primary.

But do Democrats realize this time around they might lose if they endorse the far left candidates? They have to realize that many people are unhappy with the status quo.

+1 or those who belong to the party of no book banning or giving police access to period tracking apps. Thanks!

I’m against all book banning on the right and the left. I am in the minority. The current D school board only supports their narrative as gospel and ignores their own censorship - as evidenced by the FCDC kicking out anyone with alternative views.

The left is not book banning. And it's not censorship by the left when a private organization denies you membership.

Do you meaning voting for those who endorse "hardening" of schools? I wish that would have an effect on reducing mass shootings in schools.

No you just ignore it when the left does it. See when Harry became sally. Huck finn and TKAM have also been targeted.

And I think the only criteria for being able to be a member of a democratic political organization is self identifying as a democrat.

And that article fails to mention one school or school board on the left who actually banned a book. Just said "they don't like it when the N word is used" or that the author of SkippyJonJones uses cultural appropriation. Let me know when you ID states and school boards where the left is banning books. Thanks!

Would you please consider going away? You’re a miserable one-trick pony who makes every DCUM thread to which you contribute worse. Some of the adults are trying to have a real conversation.

What you think and what’s been established are not the same things. There’s no question but that the Fairfax Democrats are vetting and rejecting membership applications from people they believe have been critical of the all-Democratic FCPS School Board - regardless of whether the applicants otherwise self-identify as Democrats or even have a history of donating to other Democrats. It’s akin to a loyalty oath, and they have a fairly low bar for when deciding people have ulterior motives for seeking to join the FCDC and should be turned away.

As a private organization that technically may be their prerogative but it creates a problem for everyone when the result is to sharply limit those who have a voice in endorsing candidates for public elections in a county that is now heavily Democratic.

OP-here I agree but if the Democrats don't give us decent options, many people will in fact vote Republican. I agree with PPs that this process should not be tied to political parties but that seems like a wish.

It is a bit of a prayer. It will be interesting to see which party does a better job over the coming months of conveying the impression that it’s interested in a “big tent.” We may just be left with an increasing number of voters who vote for one party’s candidates in national or federal elections and for another party’s candidates for local and state offices.

Here is the criteria FCDC has to become a member: https://www.fairfaxdemocrats.org/join-fcdc/
