What is going on at PVI?

That is 100% true

They are trying to save Fairfax in Loudoun?

They lost that when the Catholic Church decided to use Catholic schools as a means to convert local populations worldwide. Can’t have it both ways.

You should educate yourself. Catholic schools started for a specific reason but to to convert non-Catholics.
You are either a troll, misinformed, or both.

If you had children there you would know that there were two reasons for the walkout. One has to do with a teacher leaving and one has to do with allocation of funding for clubs/activities/etc.

It is very odd behavior for you to position yourself as a PVI parent in an attempt to sow divisiveness.

I will pray for you.

Obviously, one of the complaining older families. A teacher was disgruntled and emailed his students complaining. Unacceptable. He should have been fired (most likely was), and is not longer there.

Acceptances are coming out soon so gotta try and tear the school down so fewer kids accept = better chance at getting off the waitlist.

LOL. Has anyone NOT been accepted to PVI? Seriously, anyone??

Maybe that was true pre-2020, I don't know, but if you had been following LCPS, you would have seen that Covid closures, all the conflict with the parents & school board, allegations of assault cover-ups, etc. caused a significant flight from LCPS.

I believe there were around 250 kids not accepted for Class of 2025. Not sure about 2026 and obviously don't know if things have settled down for 2027. It will be interesting to see how things shake out, because Loudoun does have great public high schools and wonderful dedicated teachers and admin and staff. I had one child go through LCPS, but PVI was a much better choice for my younger child, and getting away from all the LCPS drama at the time was a bonus.

The best way to be accepted is probably not come to the internet and post about it. Change is hard, so maybe a little grace for those parents, and maybe try getting involved in the school yourself? I know the parents are planning more parents' activities and outings, so attend one of those perhaps. Volunteer on one of the planning committees, or concessions at one of the games.

My mama always said "To make a friend, you gotta be one."

BI and DJO both state on their website the percentage of students who are Catholic. 81% and 80%, respectively. I could find nothing similar on the PVI website, which may be the source of parents' concerns.

The purpose of a Catholic school, especially a diocesan school, is to educate children in the context of the Catholic faith. If the student body is less and less Catholic, that is absolutely going to impact the culture of the school.

I do wonder what the plan is for some of these WCAC schools. My kid is at SJC and the school prides itself on attracting non-Catholics...I think it could possibly be less than 50% Catholic these days (or maybe just around 50%). They don't even seem to really care if you are Christian.

It could be the most liberal of the WCACs...I don't really know the reputation of most. Scripture classes feel more akin to history and philosophy than the religion classes I took back in the day. Not a problem for me.

However, there is some tension with things like CS hours where Sophomore year they expect you to have service to your church...and a lot of kids correctly mention they don't really have a church or they suggest CS and the school says something like "that isn't really CS because that is just what you would normally do at church"...and the kid points out again that you accepted me knowing I don't go to church and I am definitely not Catholic.

Seems like you can either be nearly 100% Catholic or a sports powerhouse...but not both.

I'm also a parent at SJC. I don't know what % of kids are Catholic at SJC exactly but it definitely functions like a Catholic school. My Catholic sophomore did his service work at a soup kitchen. Not every church is able to accommodate a lot of teenagers who want to do service work, and that's especially true since Covid. It's not the religion teacher's problem that a kid isn't Catholic. You went there knowing you aren't Catholic and you still have to deal with the service work.

Have things calmed down at PVI?

Good on the parents demanding to get what they are paying for: Catholic education. All of these non-catholic entering with their gender neutral gender theory non-sense need to take it to a secular school.

No it’s still a s$&t show. We really regret sending our DD there. She’s a senior now so won’t change. We brought up issues multiple times to admin. No resolution. It’s not the “Loudoun families” it’s the old school Fairfax families. And we’re Catholic. It’s a mess.

So glad we chose public after parrochial k-8 then. More $$ towards college savings account.

There’s no difference between schools like PVI, BI, and O’Connell and public schools. I think I’d rather send them to public.

What’s the point in diocese schools?

What did they think was going to happen when they closed the old school specifically to build more sports fields for the school? They also moved out to a more sports oriented neigborhood and I'm sure jacked up the tuition. Good Counsel in MD is all about sports. They recruit internationally. The people I met there had no interest in actually living a Christian lifestyle. They were just about wealth and sports. I assume PVI is the same.

I know many families with kids at PVI. I feel like they either love everything about the school, or they have one foot out the door. College placement seems to be similar to mid-top level publics. Basketball is still a huge draw.

It didn’t seem like college placement was very good. I was underwhelmed by the list.
