What is going on at PVI?

They say vague things like - we are losing our identity. I think they have a group called Save Fairfax. They are very divisive.

If you had children there you would know that there were two reasons for the walkout. One has to do with a teacher leaving and one has to do with allocation of funding for clubs/activities/etc.

It is very odd behavior for you to position yourself as a PVI parent in an attempt to sow divisiveness.

I will pray for you.

Acceptances are coming out soon so gotta try and tear the school down so fewer kids accept = better chance at getting off the waitlist.

LOL. Has anyone NOT been accepted to PVI? Seriously, anyone??

Maybe that was true pre-2020, I don't know, but if you had been following LCPS, you would have seen that Covid closures, all the conflict with the parents & school board, allegations of assault cover-ups, etc. caused a significant flight from LCPS.

I believe there were around 250 kids not accepted for Class of 2025. Not sure about 2026 and obviously don't know if things have settled down for 2027. It will be interesting to see how things shake out, because Loudoun does have great public high schools and wonderful dedicated teachers and admin and staff. I had one child go through LCPS, but PVI was a much better choice for my younger child, and getting away from all the LCPS drama at the time was a bonus.

I thought Catholic schools had more spots than students applying? According to DCUM basically anyone who applies gets into diocesan high schools. Who is getting rejected if that's the case? Or was 2025 the Covid outlier year?

Can someone actually explain what is going on? We have kids at a Catholic school that was once a PVI feeder before the move and are at the point where we need to start thinking about PVI vs DJO.

Do you have to take religion classes and go to mass at PVI? We would be interested, but do not want religion shoved down DC’s throat.

It’s a Catholic school. Of course, the Catholic religion including Mass and Religion class (taught from a Catholic perspective), are required.

Your current level of interest seems to be based on knowing almost nothing about PVI or any Catholic school.

We, Catholics, call it Reinforcing our religion not shoving it down anyone’s throats.

I live in Loudoun and a decent chunk of our MS seems to be leaving for PVI in the years since it opened out here. I haven’t heard of anyone who was denied admission, and many kids who go there are neither strong students nor athletes. Many are not religious and I just truly don’t see the appeal for students who would have been on the AP track at their home high school. $100k for high school to still go to Tech or JMU? Why?

I have not heard of anyone rejected or even waitlisted from PVI, and I know a lot of kids who applied and some that go there.

Most of the kids that I know at PVI are not Catholic, but are Christian. The others I know there are Catholics who only go to mass on holidays.

I taught at a k-8 Catholic school in the Diocese of Arlington. The strong students who went to PVI or public, ended up going to better ranked universities. The middle of the road students went to middle of the road universities. Basically, I have not seen a major college placement benefit to attending PVI. Now, if you are religious, PVI is probably worth the money and extra effort. If you are looking just to avoid the “riff-raff” of your local public school, it seems unfair to rest of the families who place their kids there for religious reasons.
