And your math is way off, because you can't just divide the number of AR-15s by the number of households because they are not evenly distributed across households. AR-15 type firearms represent about 15% of all firearm types in the US. That is the single largest group of firearms, by type, and the most common type of rifle, by an enormous margin. A person is more likely to own an AR-15 than any other type of rifle.

They are far more common than most people here seem to understand. Just because you might not know anyone who owns one (as statistically unlikely as that is) it doesn’t mean tens of millions of Americans don’t.
