+1 as someone who moved to this area from out west, I am constantly amazed at how one tiny city in MoCo is compared to all of NoVa - spans like 3 counties. It's weird.

You need to compare like for like. Some people seriously need a primer on data analysis.

If you go to like Poolesville, there's hardly any crime. Why? Because it's way out there.

Generally, areas that are near other areas with a high crime rate will see some crime simply because of proximity and opportunity.

McLean is surrounded by other wealthy towns. Bethesda is near Silver Spring

Arlington VA is more like Bethesda in terms of proximity to higher crime areas, and Arlington has a higher crime rate than Bethesda, according to

The commute from MoCo to the Dulles corridor would be awful simply because you’d need to cross the bridge.

VA is where you need to be. Plus it’s safer, has better schools, and better housing options.

If you have kids va is really the best option. Colleges are way better in Virginia compare Maryland and a lot of states.

Ashburn is the exurbs. No one commutes from Ashburn or Leesburg to DC proper, they all work in Reston/Herndon area. I know a coworker that does the commute, it takes her 2 hours each way.

OP stated that her husband works in the Dulles corridor, which is right next to Ashburn. They aren’t commuting to dc. Even if they did, the metro runs to dc from Ashburn now.

Yes. Someone actually looked at period when there were extended metro closures due to track work, and petty crime decreased in the areas where the metro was closed.

We don't care about the public schools as we have always done private.

When I write it out like this, NOVA seems like the best choice. However, we have a strong emotional attachment to Bethesda related to our previous years there. I would like to smooth over my unease about violent crime in MoCo but am unsure. Thoughts?
