You can't compare "NOVA" to Bethesda. Bethesda is the richest part of MoCo. Compare it to McLean. You can find down to earth parts of MoCo as well. Bethesda is extremely expensive to the people that live there are very wealthy.
+1 as someone who moved to this area from out west, I am constantly amazed at how one tiny city in MoCo is compared to all of NoVa - spans like 3 counties. It's weird. You need to compare like for like. Some people seriously need a primer on data analysis. If you go to like Poolesville, there's hardly any crime. Why? Because it's way out there. Generally, areas that are near other areas with a high crime rate will see some crime simply because of proximity and opportunity. McLean is surrounded by other wealthy towns. Bethesda is near Silver Spring Arlington VA is more like Bethesda in terms of proximity to higher crime areas, and Arlington has a higher crime rate than Bethesda, according to https://www.neighborhoodscout.com/va/arlington/crime https://www.neighborhoodscout.com/md/bethesda/crime
