St Andrew's has parents that allow their kids and their friends to drinks at their house, but they pretend it doesn't happen.

Every school has these parents and every HSer gets invited to a sleepover that's actually a coed house party.

OP is this at SSSAS?

As a former private school lifer OP, this is not surprising to me. I was a poor scholarship nerd, so wasn't offered free drugs. I would not send my kids to most private high schools for this reason alone.

This was my experience but I grew up somewhere with much more socioeconomic diversity. The private school kids usually has the better drugs and the public school kids just had weed.

Because folks need to believe the cost of private grants them a protective bubble from the negative realities of the world. They also feel that for the money it gives them more control. Something usually happens to bring that view crashing down.

You obviously have not spent time at our public high school.

The publics are in crisis near us. Teachers fleeing and crime and violence and drug use in school up. My kids (Jr and Freshmen) haven't experienced any of this at their private Catholic high school. In fact, it was a big reason we moved them out of public school after 8th grade. Obviously, it will vary where you live.

Are any of your kids' schools educating students about the dangers of fentanyl? It's important that that conversations take place at both school and at home. I'm advocating for this at our private school and it would be good to know of other schools in DC area working to raise student awareness of fentanyl.

Kids were snorting coke in the bathroom at my wealthy public school in the '90s. When they offered it to me I laughed and said really you make me feel like I'm in a lame after school special. I washed my hands and left. Two of those girls fell off the radar the other 3 ended up super successful. I did nothing to report them.

If my kid told me about kids doing drugs. I would share my story with her and get her feedback, then go from there. My kid is super smart and has been raised to make good decisions. I trust she'll do the right thing, because I did. Drugs are everywhere.

There was an overdose at my daughter's Catholic high school just a few weeks ago. Drugs are everywhere.

Yep. That's pretty rampant. I'd worry more abt coke - street drugs are now commonly cut with fentanyl.

And OP - All the schools have problems with drugs - it's a moving target. But I've never heard of a school that doesn't let staff in the bathrooms. That is crazy.

Is this the school that had an overdose /death last year? So sad. And they do do something- they charge a lot of money for the shed.

Why don't they just take the shed down?

New poster. I have seen kids (although just two kids on one occasion) sitting and vaping right out in the open by the tennis courts there. I actually thought maybe it was allowed and was surprised by that.

Because they are both of these things. Private kids do tend to excel in certain areas - more polished. I say this as a public school kid that has very wealthy private school kids now and yes there is a difference. Plus public schools have violence and other things that privates do not.

Private kids are more polished and tend to present in a different way not always but I can easily spot private and public kids. It is tb e way they carry themselves and speak to adults. Why are you obsessed with private school forum of your kids are not at privates?

Sigh.

You do understand that parents can and do have children at both public and private schools? And the DCUM privates forum is not the exclusive environment you would like it to be?

So tired of so many private parents (including some at my kids’ school) thinking their kids are better because they have money.
