Wait- is the Jewish Eli pronounce "Ellie" like the girl's name? I didn't know that.

In Hebrew it’s Elie. Like Elie Weisel. And it’s pronounced Ellie. In English it’s pronounced E-lie.

Many Hebrew names are regularly used by non-Jewish people.

One obvious example is Mary, which is typically associated with Catholics, and is a Hebrew name.

We are not Jewish and have a DS with middle name Elliot.

I knew a girl in college named Elliott- first and only time I’ve heard it used for a girl. In her case she was from the South and it was an old family last name.

I know people are using more names as unisex but I find it a weird trend. Elliot for a girls super weird.

It’s not “weird”. It’s actually very common and Mike, we will become more popular for females than males if it hasn’t already. It’s a great way to get to Ella.

No, just no. I've never heard any girl named Mike and I don't see any boys who aren't troubled being named Ella.

Did you know the name Douglas used to be a girls' name? I know a woman named Michael but she goes by Michael.

Same with Ashley- a boys name especially in the South.

BTW PP, do you know a male Ella who is troubled? What a bizarre thing to say.
