| We are expecting our second child soon and we really like Elliot with Eli as a nn. I'm not sure if Eli for a non-Jewish is weird? |
| No it's not weird. |
| The only Elliots I know are Catholic |
|
I’ve known and Eli for years. He is not Jewish. Eli is his full name though. It’s a great name. Another option would be Elias. Elias is a Greek version of the Hebrew names "Elijah" and "Eli" Elias is a rarer choice than Elijah due to it's relative uniqueness... I love Elliot for a girl. It’s snowballing in popularity for girls..
|
| All of the Eli’s I know are Jewish. |
I hate this name for a girl. |
| Personally I know 2 Christian Eli-s. I do think of it as a Jewish name though. |

Eli
OMG op grow up. Eli is not a name that is only for Jewish families. This is so stupid. Vacation Bible school in NC, GA & FL would like to have a word. |

Go with Elias.

OP here. We are not religious but would likely be catholic if we were. We have Polish, German, and Irish heritage. |
|
OP here. We do not like Elias or Elijah. |
| I know Jewish boys with this name and non-Jewish girls. |
I think Eli for a non-Jewish kid is fine. I think Eli as a nickname for an entirely different unrelated name that doesn't start with the same sounds is very weird. If you want a kid named Eli, a legitimate name with a long meaningful history, why would you name them Elliot? |
