| I would assume you’re Jewish. |
OP here. Eli is just a cute short nn. He would likely be called Elliot majority of the time. |
|
We have an Eli. We are Jewish. He’s just Eli.
Have never heard of Eli as a nickname for Elliott though. You should just name him Eli if that’s the name you want. |
| Go with Elliot. No nn. |
| Eli Manning would be many people's first thought (and is actually short for Elisha, of all things) |
Ok? I hate the name Elliott Stephonaupolis as a girl even more. That poor child. |
| I think it's okay but using Eli for Elliott is weird. Either do Eli, plain, or Elias or Elijah. The sound of Elliott is different and to me it's a different name. |
| Also, the non-Jewish Elliotts I know are girls. |
| I think of Eli as biblical but not particularly Jewish. I only know Christians named Eli |
Elias is of Greek roots, whereas Elisha or Eli are Hebrew. Do you have any other names on your list? |
| All of the kid Elliot(t)s I know are not Jewish. All the adult ones are. They are all male. |
| I know quite a few Elliotts and Elis and none of them are Jewish. I don’t think non Jewish people naming their kid Elliott or Eli is weird at all. However, I do think naming your kid Elliott and using Eli as a nickname is weird. They don’t sound the same. |
|
OP here. We will just go with Elliot.
I know people are using more names as unisex but I find it a weird trend. Elliot for a girls super weird. |
| Love Elliot for a girl |

I immediately think of trans actor Elliot Page (formerly Ellen Page) from the X-Men movies and “umbrella academy”, etc..
