1st weather delay of the season this Thursday?

Looks like a rain only event now.

We don’t need any more virtual instruction. Are you people nuts?
Virtual does not work. The only time MCPS should consider using it is one of those crazy blizzards when schools are closed for a week.

Teachers have not been asked to put anything online or keep up their canvas pages. We don’t have zoom rooms created or shared with families. We have no reason to believe all families have wifi or devices. We have a cart model for Chromebooks and students don’t bring them home. Yes they can request an (old) Chromebook for home use but obviously that requires a lot of lead time and we’re not out there making sure they have them. Not happening. We’re at March 2020 levels of preparedness for this right now.

Asynchronous was approved by the state. I hope you understand the difference between asynchronous and synchronous. The work does not have to be done on a computer if the teacher decides to send home hard copies of the lessons.

I’m that poster. We certainly can send kids home with paper work to complete, though I don’t see how that will technically count as a day of school. But if our principal tells us to we can do it.

If this holds, I'd predict a 2hr delay. I think there will just be too much uncertainty as to the timing of the shift to rain in northern/western MoCo.

Yes. But will a 2hr delay be long enough? That would have high schoolers at their bus stops between 8 and 9 am.

It's all based on the state's approval. School systems submit plans and the state approves it. Other school systems have universal lessons for ES and some MS subject areas, but it depends on if the state approves the lessons that are in the proposal.

This will probably end up being a non-event for much of the county, so it will annoy me if they cancel an entire school day over some slippery sidewalks in the hinterlands (don't they know I have my first holiday office party in 3 years to get to!!). But that is thoroughly in the realm of possibilities.

Relax. It would be one day. The students can handle virtual, it's the parents that lose their minds.

I think it’s you guys that need to relax- MCPS isn’t even prepared for virtual so your kids will have a school-free day. Makeup days might interfere with some June vacations. It will be ok!

Winter weather advisory. Oh yeah this is happening.

My kid will cause the delay by wearing her jammies inside-out tonight.

+1 Roads mid-county have all been treated overnight. It’s colder than predicted and will be overcast most of today, so the roads are chilling down. Current icing start between 3a-6a. I still think delay announced the night before with reassessment in the morning.

Speak for yourself; my student HATES virtual because of the pandemic experience.
