1st weather delay of the season this Thursday?

It looks like we have this winter season's first iffy weather forecast to watch this week. Cold air in place + storm system bringing our favorite winter weather - ice/freezing rain.

As always, it's all about the timing for storm arrival and depth of cold air. Right now it is icy in the morning (bad for buses), turning to rain. If the forecast is the same Wednesday night (~6pm model runs), I predict a 2-hr delay announced night before, with re-evaluation in the morning. If the storm arrives earlier followed by warm rain, no delay. If the cold is deeper (goes farther south) and this is light snow all day, it won't stick, so no delay. If the storm is later, still with ice, maybe early release.

What say you DCUM? Let's hear your actual predictions, but don't forget to add all of the standard comments too.

I think they should revert back to calling the decisions at 5 am. This is a perfect day for it.

I don’t think anything will come of it but you never know!

Several nights of freezing temps overnight before then, who knows?

If there are even flurries in the early am or at any point during the day - school cancelled

No, but I see you are responding from a place of past trauma.

I teach MS in MCPS. There a flurries in the AM and during the day frequently. The kids make sure I know it’s happening. I let them speculate wildly about early dismissal for one minute, then get them back on task. While we have some night-before cancellations that result in dry streets, it has to be snowing pretty hard to close schools early. The call to cancel needs to be made fairly early. I think by 11 AM or the buses don’t work out. I think it was in 2007 or early 2008 that the snow came too late for early dismissal and kids from Key who rode the buses arrived home as late as 7 PM.

They all have laptops now, right? Just do distance learning. There’s no reason for snow days anymore.

Wouldn't it exhaust weather days after the power outage closure?

Yup. They’re just parroting what they heard someone say once. Total nonsense and wishful thinking,

Yes, but they aren’t just weather days.
