That doesn't show that it's impossible. It just shows that you're small-minded and/or hateful. |
This is the kind of response people post when they don't know what things cost. Now, in my opinion, the costs of road maintenance, snow removal, repairs due to crashes, etc. are unaffordable. You want better streets? Better start paying tolls to drive on them. Also, no more free parking or $50 RPPs. Money doesn't grow on trees, you know. |
If public transport is clean, safe, efficient and free, we've less private cars, Uber, taxis on the road, good for efficiency and good for environment. |
And when was the last time you rode Metrobus? |
First we meed to cut down on crime. That's a must to make public transport safe. |
Lets not pretend that he is wrong, metro, bus and stops need to be clean and safe if we want people to ditch their cars. |
I rode my local Circulator a lot when it was free. I don't see any different between it's function and cleanliness and honestly ridership when it's been free vs when it's been $1/ride. I think making metrobus free for all would be great! |
Cut down on exaggerated reporting of crime? Or actual crime numbers? How about we put tolls on all the roads and lift them only when driving is safe. |

Uh, what? Speaking of children. You're probably too young to know who Tony Williams is, and you certainly don't remember what D.C. was like before he was mayor, but here's Tony Williams saying the same thing: https://www.federalcitycouncil.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Letter-to-CFO-Glen-Lee-on-Commercial-Property-Vulnerabilities-11.14.22-final.pdf |
You're welcome to worship him in lieu of thinking for yourself. He's not the only one with a plan around here. |
This is excellent! As a VA resident anything that further impoverishes DC taxpayers puts me one more step ahead in competing in the local economy |
No reason at all. To pay for it, increase car registration fees to reflect true cost once externalities are accounted for and, since our colonial overlords won’t let the city impose a commuter tax, line the streets with speed, stop, and red-light cameras to tax those who have no respect for DC traffic laws. Sure, it’s a loss for scofflaw drivers but a win for everyone else. |
This thread seems to be full of young, idealistic, naive white people who think everything should be free. I agree with them when it comes to buses because it will be comedy gold when buses are transformed into roving mental wards, full of screaming homeless people, and the people on the thread are sitting among them saying "this is totally fine." |
You seem nice. |
