I really like this idea and so do the bike activist types on my timeline. For all the anti-bike people claiming to be pro-transit, what say you? Are you going to be out there championing this and more? Or was it all a farce? |
You're going to love it when the buses are full of homeless people. |
I've been on buses with homeless people and I'm ok with it. |
It would be better if our government focused on real problems. |
not buses with homeless people. buses FULL of homeless people. they would become de facto homeless shelters. |
Just to be clear. It is not free. You are or will be paying via your tax bill. If it helps with fare jumpers, probably a good thing. |
Such as? This will reduce crime. No more fare evasion on the bus! |
I'm for reduced bus fares, but there should be some charge for it. People doesn't always value something that is free (and trash it, actually). Given that DC is facing a fiscal challenge (see Williams, Anthony), I'd rather see DC use scarce transit resources to expand Circulator and Metrobus routes rather than make substandard service free to all. |
Then maybe we need to do better with our homeless shelters if they're choosing a bus over the shelter. But I also don't believe your hyperbole. |
We also don't need to pay for fare collection, enforcement, etc. And it saves us out of pocket on car expenses. |
For that reason I also want to charge people to drive on any city road or walk on sidewalks. It'll teach people to value it. /s |
Believe whatever you like, but our city is hostile to homeless people and warm buses will look like a pretty good sleeping option to many, all things considered. |
Have you visited DC public libraries lately? |
Yes? With my kids. They're great. And homeless people have a right to use them and buses. If you don't like homeless people using public services then maybe we could get them homes? |
I'd be very ok with our city being less hostile to homeless people |
