Why would it? We haven't had any new federal road projects in decades. New road projects around here are public-private partnerships. Where do the state taxes go?

Roads require maintenance and the amount we pay in gas tax doesn't cover it. We're subsidizing it through general taxes at both the federal and local level.

Well we should eliminate the gas tax then. If bus riders are going to get a free pass because fares are inadequate, then drivers shouldn't need to pay an inadequate user fee either.

That's what you'll get in more rural areas of say, Missouri (20%) or . Alaska (15%). But in a major city like DC where we care about the environment in addition to congestion, we want more people who can to take the bus or metro.

What’s wrong with more driving? I drive an electric car and it has limited environmental impact and certainly less impact than empty buses. Thanks to the Biden Inflation Reduction Act, it will facilitate more widespread electric car adoption and when that happens what’s going to be the excuse?

Your electric car probably has less impact than if it had an internal combustion engine. Or it might have more, depending on the vehicle and how much you drive it. And it definitely has more impact on the roads, because it's heavier, and you are definitely contributing even less to the road maintenance fund, because you don't pay gas taxes. That's just for starters.

Electric cars cause the same amount of congestion as gas powered cars. Maybe it's a great solution for rural Montana, but we're taking about DC here.

We need to give subsidies to visionary companies such as Elon Musk. He can build tunnels under the city that transport people at the speed of light. Also I have heard there are plans for self driving vehicles that help prevent congestion. If this fails it is because the govt didn't invest enough into these incredible companies
