Not to tell children/family that I am out of job?

We had recent money concerns and didn’t tell the kids. Well, our children can read minds or something. They probably knew something was off. I can tell by the comments they make and questions they ask. Depending upon their age and ability to read nuance in facial expressions, they may know something is wrong but just not know what.
