I keep hearing that DC women are not attractive

DC/NOVA women, in the wealthier neighborhoods, are beautiful.
Go walk around Clarendon, so many fit beautiful women of all ages.
Go to McLean or Vienna. Lots of fit moms and beautiful fit teen girls.

Now, if you go to Rockville or Burke, its a bit different.

I'm a happily married man. Neither my wife nor I care much about clothes, and she doesn't wear makeup or do much with her hair (other than keep it long). Most people would find us boring or even dowdy. But we both exercise regularly and are the same weight and have basically the same (good) bodies as when we met 20+ years ago, and we find each other attractive.

Perhaps I’ve lived here too long to notice, but what does the average, non attractive DC woman actually look like / what are her beauty habits? I lived in Texas in my youth and agree women from places like that put a lot into their appearance. I just don’t find DC women all that slovenly, though.

Yes I know this is in beauty but, right now it is also in 'recent topics' and so I say...not this again! Are we really judging women by their looks?

Yes. Beautiful women AND men have better advantages in this world. Both financially and socially.

But we aren't judging the ugly men in dc are we?

We can. Start a thread. The OP started this based on the judge post. There’s 1000 ugly politicians in this city. Pick one.

Chuck Todd has his own thread for instance.

I left DC and I’m so glad I don’t have to answer “why are you so dressed up?” anymore! I like to dress up. Life is short. Fashion is fun

More than that, it’s that it’s a place that actively looks DOWN on those things. Women who post here saying they do basic things like refresh their wardrobe with trends, get their hair dyed, Botox, etc. then get sneered at from the women who come here ONLY to deride anyone who cares about their appearance.
It’s also a place where people are obsessed with looking like they have money, but the kind of money that is quiet and shabby. So they think it’s better to wear old clothes and look raggedy because they believe it conveys the type of wealth they want.

Anonymous wrote:Yes it's clothing and I think we don't have any industries in DC that are about looks. NYC and LA you see ridiculously beautiful people strolling around at times. They are models, actors, or wannabe models and actors.

Those are the only 2 cities where I consistently notice people are better looking than average.

Miami. South Beach is all good looking people.

Florida has skin and copious plastic surgery. The south has the Southern preppy beach look... DC just really doesn't have a type

DC's type involves a knit Lands' End shift dress, a Macy's blazer, sensible pumps, plain gold hoops, a swipe of lipstick, and a National Public Radio tote bag.

Please. I have an art-to-wear scarf and a statement necklace. Gold hoops indeed. My earrings are from a little stall at a cute street market.

Ha! I literally laughed out loud for that one.

I think it's a lot of this, and we have better things to do with our time. I try to look descent but my main priority is work and family. Hair and makeup doesn't even register as a priority. Whereas my family living in Texas and Florida always have hair and makeup done. If I have free time, I'm going for a run or getting some reading done. My family there definitely don't do either of those activities.

We are no worse than women in any other state.

Women like to tear each other down and it definitely gives some women perverse joy to say horrible, mean-spirited comments about other women's appearances on this site.

Yep. This is me. Shift dress, blazer or cardigan, switch out heels for Rothys which I carry in my NPR tote bag. You missed obligatory grey, camel or black pea coat in the winter. White and red identical pea coat is bold! I worship at the Ann taylor shrine.

And yes, I love a DC man in a solid color light blue button down shirt, dark grey chino dress pants, kind of dressy shoes and a laptop messenger bag. Toss on some glasses, an occasional sport coat (navy), and a pin from whatever political affiliation they are repping and I am in!!
